A Message From Jess

While experienced with anxiety, depression, issues of adjustment, mood disorders, and complex presentations, I hold a special interest in working with developmental trauma (also known as adverse childhood experiences) which includes physical or emotional abuse, neglect and other stressful adversities. For this reason I deeply enjoy working with young families and individuals to address and heal from intergenerational trauma that arises during the perinatal and early parenting period. I also hold a special affinity to working with individuals of all ages to explore and heal relational trauma.

Considering my innate draw to connect with others and the value I hold for the importance of attachment in the development of self and our overall wellbeing, I see the therapeutic connection as the most valuable part of our work together. In this sense, I hold a deep value and respect for you and the wisdom you already have within to make room for and manage the difficult experiences in your world. I see you as the expert in your experiences and together through therapy, we work toward achieving meaningful understanding, growth, and healing.

As your psychologist I bring my personal qualities of compassion, warmth, and intuition to develop an authentic and collaborative space for you to ultimately experience the freedom of being able to accept and honour all parts of yourself. Ultimately, you can show up exactly as you are, no matter what you’re experiencing, and through it all, I will meet you with compassion wherever you are at.

Alongside being a psychologist, I am a wife, mother of two young children, outdoor adventurer, and an extroverted introvert who thrives in carefree time spent with those I love. As someone who lives with ADHD I am drawn to spontaneous experiences and often find myself undertaking new projects or creative endeavours. I enjoy spending time outdoors and am particularly drawn to the water. My heart is at its most content siting on the beach with my husband in the early hours of the morning sipping on warm coffee as we watch the sunrise while the kids run barefoot through the sand. If you know me well, or choose to work with me you will quickly come to know how I value the art of starting your day slowly, with intention, and on purpose.

I am deeply grateful to be able to do the work that I do, to hold space for my clients as they navigate the ups and downs of life, and to provide support and guidance as they grow and heal. I feel honoured to be invited into the lives of my clients, to be trusted to walk beside them in a time of need, and to witness them achieve meaningful change.

If you would like to connect with me, I would be honoured to walk alongside you and support your journey to healing and self-growth.

I have always been drawn to other people’s stories, and fascinated by not only what is spoken, but what is often left unsaid or seen as unspeakable. Consciously or unconsciously these are the parts of our story that we withhold from the world, hide from our relationships, and ultimately battle with ourselves. From both personal and professional experience I have developed a profound appreciation for the overt and subtle ways that these dynamics impact upon ourselves, our relationships, and our overall wellbeing. This has led me to develop a passion to connect with the people I work with in a meaningful way to assisting them to find their voice, and to hold a space in which they can safely explore, understand, express, develop self-acceptance, and heal.

Working from an evidence based framework my therapeutic approach is predominantly psychodynamic and innately influenced by Attachment Theory and Emotion Focused Therapy. I tend to take more of a person-led, connection focused, and conversational approach to my sessions although I can be analytical, structured, and targeted where needed. Ultimately I draw from a variety of evidence-based and effective therapeutic approaches to personalise therapy to what is meaningful and useful for you

I also have a keen interest in holistic wellbeing. I wholeheartedly believe that the mind and body are connected and we often cannot heal one without addressing the other. Our experiences are embedded not just in our thoughts and emotions but in our body and our nervous system. For this reason I enjoy researching and learning about natural and complementary approaches that consider the whole person and can support both mental and physical health. Our work together will draw on the wisdom of your body incorporating nervous system regulation and other somatic techniques to help you to live a more grounded and stable life.
